The Mill

Special thanks goes to Richard and Patricia Nye, whose generous donation of 6 Locust trees, along with grates, helped organize and begin Ludlow Streetscapes

Thanks also goes to Fritz Sears who helped with the design and siting, Gretchen and Steve Mackin who donated their expertise and services in getting the trees planted, and Keith Arlund who provided some assistance from the town.

The trees were planted in October 2001 and have been growing quickly

Veteran's Memorial Park

Thanks in part to a grant from The Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program, which was matched by the community, 2 Red Maple Trees and 3 Flowering Crab Apple Trees were planted Friday, June 21, 2002 on the Village Green, formally known as the Veteran's Memorial Park.

Keith Arlund, Ludlow Town Manager, Gretchen and Steve Macklin (formally Seamack Trees, now GM Tree Tech Inc and Landscaping) and Leslie Stuart from the Ludlow Streetscape Group were instrumental in securing the grant.

The Macklins provided much of the physical labor to plant the trees, with an able assist from the town, which provided a backhoe, dump truck and operators.

Town Hall

Four planters were made for Town Hall thanks to a donation by local carpenter, William Tucker.
The two window boxes and two step planters were planted by Patty Hunt of xxx.
The Ludlow Garden Club donated a sum of money toward the purchase of the plants.
Thanks goes to Marc Stuart, William Nye and Peter Crowley for hanging the window boxes on Town Hall.

Sign Planting

In the fall of 2002, members of Streetscapes bought and planted blulbs underneath the "Welcome to Ludlow" sign on Rt. 103 south of town

Mini Park

In the fall of 2002, members of Streetscapes bought and planted bulbs in the Mini Park next to Town Hall.

In the spring of 2003, members of Streetscapes pruned the bushes and the trees in the Mini Park. After years of neglect, the park had become overgrown and plants were competing for space. The pruning allowed a majority of the plants already there to remain and thrive, while giving the new flowers room to propogate.

Peony Donation

Thanks to a donation from Frost Hill Farm in Belmont, 5 peonies were planted by Liz Crowley and Joanna Bombadil in the island on the corner of Elm and Main Streets.

2003 Planting Challenge

One local property owner, Mike Skinner, was so impressed with the Streetscape Group's planting effort last spring that he issued the following challenge: I will donate one tree for every three trees that you plant.

This challenge was met with the help of a number of donors:

Jim and Anita Alic
David and Beth Almond
Margo Goida
ALan and Michelle Grant
Patsy and Kevin Kuntz
Ludlow Garden Club
Catherine Lynch
Cecelia McMillen
Jean Morrill
Okemo Mountain
Charlotte and John "Dud" Pluta

Wine & Cheese Depot

In total, 17 trees were planted: 2 Maple trees at Subway, 2 Pear trees on High Street, 1 Clump Birch tree, 2 Maple trees and 5 Flowering Crab Apple trees on Pleasant Street, a Birch tree on Thompson Ave, and 4 Maple trees on Main Street
